So having seen some gigs this summer what do you guys think of Andy and Gem? They've been with the band 5 years now, getting close to as long as Guigs and Bonehead were. Personally, I really wish they would be given a bit more to do in concert. Noel always goes on about how great it is to have better musicians in the band, and the band does sound awesome, but it would be cool to see Gem do some jamming or interesting guitar work instead of just the outro on DLBIA. On the Giants gigs Gem was doing the go let it out outro and a few of the solos. Now it is pretty much by the numbers. I want to think of these guys as essential to the band but maybe it will take another album.

I agree, Andy Bell has more than proven himself with the future classic turn up the sun

Turn Up The Sun is close to my favourite song now,
i think Gem is massively underrated, Hung In a Bad Place was a great song, as is A Bell Will Ring.
His stuff with heavy Stereo was also really good. Give Gem the chance to prove himself and he is a great guitarist and is also a great allround musician and songwriter, his arrangements are so good.
Andy is also class, i like Hurricane #1 and Ride (IMO Ride was better). He is also mega talented and wrote Turn Up The Sun (which i love)
-edit-
at V as the band left the stage i think i was the only one shouting at Gem when he walked off

Also nobody wants to admit that Gem's a better guitar player than Noel.

Also nobody wants to admit that Gem's a better guitar player than Noel. I hate to say this, but its true and a drunk Noel would probably tell you so If you watch gem he's so smooth, like the notes are coming out of his finger tips, while Noel to me has that face of a dog dragging his ass down a driveway... kinda like he's forcing it. Still Noel is a great guitar player, I just don't think it comes as naturally as it does to gem And noel has said he was better at strumming... Anyways personally I think Andy and Gem here hell of alot better then the lumps of clay that was guigs and bonehead, have you ever seen Andy when he really gets into it?! lol Its fabulous

ive seen many interviews with Noel quite openly saying that Gem is a far superior guitar player....i dont know if i agree with that totally, but if Gem plays lead on anything its probably going to be great.... ;D as for Andy....well...turn up the sun speaks for itself... i havent been to any shows this tour yet because they dont come to australia untill november, but isnt Gem playing harmonica and Andy playing some keys on tunes?that would suggest that they are being allowed to show what great musicians they are...

gem is one of the best guitar players of the rock scene right now and btw noel always admits gem is far better than him.

Also nobody wants to admit that Gem's a better guitar player than Noel. Yeah man, I really really hate to say it, but it's true, Gem is a better guitar player. But Noel's still the chief so he gets to play the solos live. He made Oasis what they are and will be, even if Gem or/and Andy write more songs than he does on the next album, Noel has the (divine) right (as a rockstar) to play the guitar solos as long as they exist.

Noel might not be the better guitar player but he still remains the best song writer. Noel would never write a lyrics like 'Ive got a piano, I cant find the C." Really though, 1st time I heard this I wondered why that would be in there.

I don't think you want to get in an argument where your position is Noel's great lyrics. Just a sample off the top of my head:
"The sink is full of fishes." "Let me hear you smile." "How does it feel like?"

Gem and Andy are both great (and better guitar players than noel), and I have to admit that what I hate abut the last two albumbs is that the only greatful solos, are hung in a bad place, and the importance of being idle, but great music though. So why not having some eyeball tickler in the albums?, I mean it, the meaning of soul is great but only live when gem does the guitar solo(thats MEGA) I'd love to hear some more of live forever and dont look back in anger's like solos. Also if something really amazed me when gem first came into the band was go let it out outro, I know noel plays it in the album but really who does it better than gem I STILL THINK NOEL IS IN MY TOP 3 WRITERS OF ALL TIME AND I MISS HIS SOLOS. I'm glad they still pley some of the old stuff ;D

I dunno about anyone else, but I can definately tell when it's Gem doing a solo and when it's Noel. First off, their guitars sound different, secondly, Gem has a different style. Noel is smooth with lots of bends, while Gem will make the notes sustain more, but sound like they're jumping out at you. It's hard to explain, but they have very distinct styles.. I like it...

Also can somebody tell if gem has taken guitar lessons ever? I now noel hasn't but Gem? I just like the idea of being GREAT WITHOUT CLASSES ;D

Apparently he only taught Gem a few chords and from there on Gem became self-taught. Andy is self-taught as well.

I don't think TUTS is that great. It's the weakest track on the album IMO.
Its a nice opening song for the gigs and sounds good live, but besides from that it doesn't do much for me
