I saw them in San diego the other night (before Vegas) and Liam's voice was just as awful, particularly on Lyla which he hasnt been able to nail for what seems like almost all the performances we have heard.I am sorry to come across as so negative but I fear the worst for Liams voice. Eventhough he seemed to pull it together for msg (I didnt have the best seats but I thought the sound was good and Liam, apart from lyla sang well). Last night (kroq)and the San diego show were more like the Jonathen Ross show! I have a theory that I mentioned at the beginning of the tour that I think Liams voice has not been the same since the teeth incident. He is trying to make up for his innability to annunciate by shortening words, pulling back from the mic ect. (chamaine supernova and knock and roll star). I know everyone wants to blame it on the booze but I could see his water bottle the other night and again last night and he truly appears to be trying but unfortunately it sounds like he is over compensating, out of breath, and shouting.Does anyone agree with the teeth thing being a problem?

the problem is theyre playing too any shows without a rest, cmon i want to see you go out and sing 4 nights in a row, and still have your voice like the 1rst day, liam should cancel tonight gig, to give his voice a deserved rest, yesterday he took one for the team

they did not need to play that show last nite - inland invasion.. it was painful for me to watch.. like a football game and yer team is getting crushed.. he does need some vocal hygiene and strategies as any singer does... he's being pushed to hard.. that's why he was swearing and all, utter frustration..

I have not heard Liam sing "Lyla" well on any bootleg...I would agree...since the teeth incident his pronunciation is awful.

Liam doesn't get Lyla perfectly, but then so what, its still a great live song when you're there, his vocals aren't what they were in the 90s, but they only come across as being worse on bootlegs IMO, he's still the best live.

and the harder liam tries, the worse it gets. it's a shame. too many shows, and for the most, venues that are too big. i can see doing large venues in places like NYC and LA, but everywhere else, a more modest venue would've been better. but i think they thought jet would bring more fans, which apparently they haven't.

Well I think Liam is really giving it a go this time in the US. He could have very well cancelled last night's show because of his voice, but he wanted to see it through for the fans there to see him. Like he's been saying- he wants to be the best singer out there and wants to do every show throughout the tour. I think he'll concentrate on getting his voice back. Lots of hot tea, lemon and honey. Getting a good night's sleep....but still being a rock star. I think his head is centered now adays and knows what he's gotta do....at least that's what I'm hoping

The fact that he hasn't pulled out of one gig this tour, bar a couple of songs in a gig in Italy supports that theory.

I agree, he can't pronounce, he's gotten worse since SOTSOG, that chamaine su-er-oua thing is true, I notice it most on My Generation, I see him mad at his voice when he pulls back early from the mic, it's very sad. Also the talkin in between the songs has gone down considerably, almost like he is counting every single word he says as if it was the last one of the night.
But I really can't say much, i havent seen them live in this tour, I will this weekend and have my review next week, let's hope the best!

I do agree that the SD apart from Lyla was considerably better but I still thought he seemed short of breath and didnt or couldnt bother to hit certain notes. He also didnt bother with the "gonna live forevaa" bit at the end of live forever which unfortunately he did last night. I also agree they are always guilty of stringing to many shows in a row which can take its toll. What I cant understand is after seeing them so many times over the past ten years and being an avid collecter of all the boots, I have heard him hoarse and maybe strain but not what we witnessed last night (Kroq). Again, I am not trying to be pessimistic.I love the new album as a whole and think the new goal track is an epic classic, I am just concerned that liam although seemingly more serious about the band arguably than he ever has been, has severe voice issues which could possibly be stemming from the teeth incident. Was glasto after the teeth smashing? It seems that that performance is largely regarded as their worst ever Kemit the frog comments etc. Cheers to tam for her always thoughtful insight.

I think he'll get it back together. I thought he's sounded great at Manchester, MSG, V Fest, Benicassim were all great

Liam's voice is fucked up. The way in which is sung all these years has taken a toll on his vocal chords. Gets out of breath, lost range, lost precision in hitting notes. That, with naturally getting older, smoking, and booze, have hurt his voice.
The strain he puts on his vocal chords when he sings is the main thing.
The teeth is a minor part of it, if any part of it at all

I Really cant agree with this , he is only 31 , other rockers have partied and smoked as hard or HARDER and not had voice probs at this young age ...daltrey,plant,tyler,ect ect all sung at full throttle like LIAM and all have partied like there is no toomorow. your voice should not be feeling it at 31,,at 41 maybe at 51 sure , but 31 ? no way..its gotta be something else

From what I can tell is that Liam is trying to sing to the crowd like he didn't have a mic and PA with all that wattage behind him. He needs to just sing without straining and let the amped sound carry the volume.
If he sang almost like he talks to people that massive amps would carry the sound.
That's my opinion.

I mean, how the hell did it get like that after a 2 year recess? Only Liam knows.

I think Liam is trying his ass off on this tour. I like the way his voice has matured. But right now it's been reduced to borderline shouting, but at least he is making an effort for the fans, which you couldn't always say in the past.
I'm thinking it wouldn't be such a bad idea for Noel to do another acoustic set (like the old days), or one more song or two during the night. But that won't happen - and Liam probably would be against it anyhow.
The thing is, if you're a big fan, just seeing them in person is enough.

I also think Liam missing sound checks doesn't help much, and might be a reason why Noel doesn't have much sympathy for him.

Just got back from the Phoenix show...I thought Liam's voice sounded great...and it was far better on "Lyla" than I had anticipated after hearing other bootlegs. I don't think there is anything to worry about. What a great concert...top notch
