Oasis pay tribute to hurricane victims at gig
Oasis paid tribute to victims of Hurricane Katrina last night as they played their biggest ever show in Los Angeles (September 12).
The Manchester outfit were performing for the first time at the city’s Hollywood Bowl , when midway into their set, frontman Liam Gallagher paused to pay tribute to one of the locales affected by the tragedy.
"The next one’s for the people in New Orleans ," he said simply before the group launched into 'Live Forever' .
The band played a 90-minute set including the likes of 'Lyla', 'Champagne Supernova' , 'Wonderwall' , 'Don’t Look Back in Anger' and 'Rock 'N' Roll Star' .
Before the group’s last song – their traditional cover of The Who classic 'My Generation' - guitarist Noel Gallagher took time to recognize Oasis reaching the landmark venue after over a decade of playing live the USA.
"It’s nice to get here after all the years of fucking about in nightclubs," he laughed before dedicating the cover to "people of Mexican origin".

Actually, Noel dedicated Don't Look Back in Anger to people of Mexican origin... not My Generation.

I've never seen them in such Top form as they were last night at the Hollywood Bowl. Kas and Jet gave decent, whatever, performances. They should take a few notes from Oasis. Same Setlist as the prior shows. Liam has noticeably changed. The guy was drinking bottled water on stage. WATER. He's changed his posture. He's wearing earplugs. I was immedietly skeptical. This is an imposter. Who is this guy? But I have never heard him sing as good as he did last night. I can't wait to hear recordings from this tour. As for the rest of the band...as always...solid. Starkey is a hell of a drummer. I was in the second row and Liam handed out his tamborine a couple of times to some birds. Near the end of the concert, a girl jumped on stage and as security grabbed her and began escorting her off, Liam walked over and objected and gave her a hug. He was also giving some high fives to people, which I don't think I've ever seen before. I'm guessing Noel is pleased with Liam's changed on-stage demeanor. I'm sure the tour is on calmer waters than the band has ever seen before. As for the Bowl, the place was completely packed. Obviously a landmark concert for them. Considering the last time I saw them was at a little venue in Berkley, I think it's safe to say DBTT has really been big for them here in America. There was a time, here, where it seemed hip to NOT like them. I always got into arguments with knobheads, them saying the Brothers are assholes. Blah blah. Now, I hear people blasting DBTT in their cars. Something has definetly changed for them here. For the better.
