Fair enough.
I love it the album.
I hate overproduction.

Its a real good building block for the next album which is apparently going to be a "blinder.."
My Review
Oasis are definately back with this LP. Look at the calibre of songs like Turn up the Sun, Keep the Dream Alive(single-material) and to an extent radio-friendly Lyla.
In Heathen Chemistry, yes you had the epic Stop Crying Your Heart Out but didnt it sound all to morbid? well for Oasis anyway. Personally it sounded like a Fading away, signalling out song. DBBT is the : We are Back on the scene-with a new burst of energy album
Yes ill admit that songs like A bell will ring are midly un-bearable and i do thank the lord for the skip opton on my CD player whenever i land on track 10. For me that song feels all to dry with no place on the album.
Let There Be love, well wasnt Noels arm "twisted' to quote the DBBT doco. LTBL had/has no place on the album. Essentionally we have been taken for a ride when we hit 11. All the preceeding songs, vibrant energetic and then we hit the ballad.
Ok Im all for the 'Roll it Over' type ending to a record but LTBL has no place for this record. I do hold an inevitable predujice against this song as it was originally penned during the transitional SOTSOG sessions and to be its like all the hard work is done only to revert back to that 2000 era.
Lyla and MF are not my most favoured Oasis songs but they have a place one might argue on this record.
overall, over-produced,badly mastered, some top tunes some IFFY ones. Its a mixed bag
this mixed bag record is placed behing Morning glory as the 3rd best Oasis album, but that would be all too easy to say wouldnt it(mimiking the millions of other oasis fans who share this thought)
I have to rate this abum with 3.5/5
Its no DM but then what the fuck is in this day and age?
Great album

A solid record and a good listen from start to finish. DBTT's strengths are several top quality songs and a full, well paced, varied but like-minded tracklisting.
DBTT is the first successful Oasis MK 2 record and shows a new work ethic. Noel, no longer the sole contributor concentrates the bulk of the songs while Liam gives his best effort and Andy and Gem lend the glue and flow of the record.
The only weakness for me is a poor album title and awful artwork which seems to be conceptually illustrating an out of favour Oasis rather than doing a very good record in it's self justice.
DBTT is given a hard time by some fans an in my opinion is underappreaciated as the album that kept the dream alive.

My preferred DBTT trackisting would have been
TURN UP THE SUN MUCKY FINGERS LYLA LOVE LIKE A BOMB THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING IDLE LORD DONT SLOW ME DOWN (LIAM VOCAL) STOP THE CLOCKS (LIAM VOCAL) PART OF THE QUEUE KEEP THE DREAM ALIVE A BELL WILL RING LET THERE BE LOVE
It would have made the whole album just that little bit better. Plus there is a Liam version of STC AND LDSMD out there somewhere... And noel said the original vision of STC was to be track 7 of the album and to be a big band champagne supernova style song

Record Machine (Liam) 11. Boy With The Blues

Don't Believe The Tracklist I'd say this is a great improvement also. Eyeball tickler is a far superior tune than the meaning of soul or Abel. Saying all that I do like DBTT as it but there's always a little room for improvement here and there Just joined this forum so I'm gonna deconstruct heathen chemistry next

Something like this would've been cool:
Turn Up the Sun Mucky Fingers Lyla Love Like a Bomb The Importance of Being Idle Eyeball Tickler (just listened to it, fucking hell what a rocking tune!; would replace ABWR) Pass Me Down the Wine (replacing GGTIA) Part of the Queue Keep the Dream Alive Let There Be Love, with a cool crossfade into I Can See it Now (replacing TMoS indirectly)
It's good the way they released it, but in that way, I think there would've been a really cool feel to the album.

I can't see "Guess god thinks I'm able" being a live favorite. Or "A Bell Will Ring"
I think that says it all about that album. Its no way near as good as Heathen Chemistry or Standing on the Shoulder of Giants. In fact, in many ways, its just the same as those records.
More disappointment. By far the most predictable dreary songs Oasis ever did. It should of been much better.

I genuinely like this album a lot. Every song on it fits well into the context of the album, have good or decent qualities to them, and to be honest, the whole album itself is a moment of near-brilliance for the band in the 21st century. However, if I could make one change, I'd say Eyeball Tickler, in place of The Meaning of Soul, even though I don't mind that song at all (meh lyrics, good acoustic punk tune tho). DBTT just needed one more electric tune on there imo. I'd say it's one of my favorite Oasis albums, and is close to Definitely Maybe. In fact, I'd like to think that DBTT is kind of like the Definitely Maybe for 21st century Oasis, which leads to DOYS (supposed to) being like the MG for 21st century Oasis. It came close, though.

You make out like Oasis are 100 years old. Just because its 2005, doesn't mean it had any relevance to 1995 - my god that album should of been so much better.
They recorded so many more songs and they chose "Love Like a Bomb" and "Turn Up The Sun" for it.
Turn up the Suns okay but its a B Side.

If DBTT was this, it would've been unstoppable: 1.Turn Up The Sun 2. Eyeball Tickler 3. Lyla 4. Love Like A Bomb 5. The Importance of Being Idle 6. Guess God Thinks I'm Abel (without the random ending) 7. Part of the Queue 8. Keep the Dream Alive 9. Let There Be Love 10. Stop the Clocks (A more polished version of the demo, nothing like the HFB version) 11. I Can See It Now Besides the random and pointless ending, I really like GGTIA. Wish they went with this sort of sound with DGSS.

World71R I've always liked the idea of 'Can Y'See It Now??' closing the album and a crossfade with Let The Be Love I think would sound great. I know you've changed your mind since, but I have to agree with the other swaps you made as well. Both those b-sides could and should have been on the album.

I haven't changed my mind on the CYSIN/LTBL crossfade thing, don't worry It would sound cool as fuck, and kind of like a way of saying, "Look at what we've done, and where we're going." Also looking at the other songs, I think A Bell Will Ring would be the other one I'd replace. It's a good tune with a nice driving riff, but if taking that one out meant making the CYSIN/LTBL crossfade thing happen, then I'd be all for that. Anyways, having Keep the Dream Alive, and then Let There Be Love next on the tracklist would be borderline brilliant, as far as working with the atmosphere & flow of the album.

I haven't written a review for this album yet. So 10 years on, here it is.
Oasis Don't Believe the Truth. 4/10. Released May 2005.
So here it is, months of waiting, years of waiting...the follow up to Heathen Chemistry, the most overlooked cd of 2002 and 2003.
Well its been awfully quiet since Oasis last released their last single Songbird, containing Heart of a star, a song that should of been on the actual album. Also bizarrely a live version of Columbia. Which has not a lot in common with that single track but is a rarer song you hear live from Oasis, so perhaps worth it.
The first single Lyla is laughable. Utter nonsense, in fact the b sides to that single "Eyeball tickler" and "Won't let you down" are far superior, but still miles from Oasis's better years.
Perhaps this album for all its weaknesses which is a lot, was just a victim of poor single choice. "Mucky Fingers" Noel Gallagher's choice was sided for Lyla instead, a b side demo that didn't make the recording sessions.
The highest points of this album is "Keep the dream alive" although the chorus sounds like it was written by a drunk homeless man. Love Like a Bomb is tuneful but depressing at the same time.
Part of the Queue makes me think of an overcast day in London (or anywhere) and it makes you wonder if Noel Gallagher actually wrote that in 1998 when he was kicking drugs.
Liams singing is not flash here either, he sounds okay at some points but awful in others. And its probably to do with the copious amounts of tobacco he smoked during the recording sessions. And he ballooned a few stone up as well during the recording.
Maybe they should of stuck with Death in Vegas and just released that album, and then gone and done this one anyway, since it only took 2 months to record. Then I would of forgiven them. But to wait 3 years for this, all I can say is, make sure you buy the singles for the b sides, cause your gonna be disappointed.
"I Won't Let you down" Liam sings......oh but you have.

It's a good album. One that if The Libertines, Jet, Kaiser Chiefs, The Kooks or anyone else from that era had released, it would be regarded as their best album.
Obviously great bands like Coldplay and The Strokes were around at the time and sort of changed the face of music, so this retro sounding album was a bit of an aquired taste. The album is very 60s in its production and sound, so it won't ever be to everyone's liking. However it is definitely their 4th best album behind the big three.
