OASIS Don’t Believe The Truth (Big Brother Recordings) Britpop bores are all mouth and no trousers
THIS sixth album had a nightmare gestation, beginning as a collaboration with dance producers Death in Vegas, being binned three times, taking in a terrible headlining Glastonbury slot and coming out 18 months behind schedule.
As ever, there were rumours of a rift between the grouchy Gallaghers, but both contribute tracks to the album, as do Gem and Andy Bell. The result doesn’t look promising. The band’s increasingly desperate leader has compared the new songs to everyone from Elvis, The Who and Bob Dylan to Soundtrack of Our Lives on Skol. What, no Beatles?
Despite Noel’s bluster, the first single, Lyla, has already been given a rough ride by fans. It gets an average rating of 2.5 out of 10 on XFM’s Oasis message board, where one fan suggests the chorus sounds a lot like Mona by Craig MacLachlan.
Note to Noel: throwing in a swirling siren sound isn’t enough to make a song exciting. Still, there are signs that a back-to-basics approach to writing lyrics might find favour with old fans. Part of the Queue, featuring the Cuban percussionist Lenny Castro, is apparently about waiting to buy a pint of milk, while the Liam-penned Love Like a Bomb, inspired by Julie Christie and described as a wistful follow-on from Songbird, should be worth a listen.
Andy Bell’s title track borrows its intro from Midnight Cowboy, although his other contribution, Keep the Dream Alive, inspired by David Essex in Stardust sounds like one to give short shrift.
They say “Our best record since Definitely Maybe. We stuck it out; we stuck to our guns and we pulled it off.”
We say Don’t believe the hype.
Verdict Don’t buy. Save your money for the DVD of this summer’s eagerly awaited live shows.
Released Single on May 16; album on May 30. A Polish DJ has leaked Lyla to the net. LV

couple of points make me think she hasn't heard the album, firstly she makes no reference to what any particular song sounds like with the exception of lyla and she also says "andy bells title track borrows it's intro from midnight cowboy"
the album title should be changed to "Don't believe the times"

If the reviewer was respected/important enough to have been sent out a promo of the new album she'd know she is talking out of his arse.
Another face I'd love to see when they get the album.

LV read this interview carefully except for lyla he or she has not heard the lp says part of the queue is a back to basics approach lyrically, and love like a bomb "should be worth a listen" i guess that means he has not listened yet? but is slaggin them off anyway..this is a rip job

This reviewer deserved being sack and the times should be ashamed of themselves..
How can someone would suggest others not to buy an album if he/she haven't heard about it....
it is apparent that this stupid reviewer has not heard the record, all words are straight from Noels...
Somone need to write something to the times..!

Yeh the author clearly hasn't heard it. Papers like the times or the Mail have always hated oasis. It really annoys me that when u first skim read it as most people do with reviews, u get the impression he/she has heard it. At least if he/she had i would of had to respect their opinion. Worried that after tht some people read it they might not give it a chance and have their minds made up before even listening to it!. Anyone got the author's email? feel like a rant...

It reads from this "review" that the author hasn't heard the album at all! "Should be worth a listen" - what a disgrace. The whole thing is built around slagging Lyla and saying things "don't look good" with Gem and Andy's writing. The whole thing is a total prejudgement.
From a rag like The Star or something I might expect this but The Times is meant to have standards. Just another Rupert Murodch propaganda sheet after all, I guess. Fuck 'em.

Personally I think she may have heard the album, only simply because the fact that if she hasnt and anyone cant prove it her fuckin job is toast. Shes probably slaggin on Oasis because thats whats become popular recently.
Fuck her and her reviews, in the end they dont mean shit. If I! think the album is great I swear on everything in this world that I will buy atleast 3 of them to show them (Oasis) that I support them and their desire to last, especially for us fans. Which brings me to another topic, guys this album is likely their final attempt to claim hugeness they had earleir but in a huge way I like to believe its for US, the guys who stuck around, that traveled God knows what distance to see them live, the people who bought the DM dvd and watched it twice through the first time it went in the dvd player, the people that spend countless hours on a fuckin internet site just to share something they care a great deal about with other people that hopefully feel the same way.
So after my ranting in the end I guess im saying fuck her, if shes heard the album through 20 times or not. It doesnt mean shit, if one of my roommates doesnt by the album their loss; but I will do my best to show Liam and Noel I honestly appreciate what they have given me.

i think the phrase 'should be worth a listen' clearly shows the reviewer hasnt heard the album...not that most people will pick that up on first read
it is absolutely pathetic to tell people not to buy an album they havent hear themselves!!!
and britpop bores? name one other britpop band that is interesting if oasis isnt!!!!
