LONDON (Reuters) - British rock band Oasis have returned to the musical spotlight with five nominations for the 2005 Q awards, the organisers said on Tuesday.
The Manchester band won their first Q award in 1994, taking the Best New Act title before being named the Best Act In The World Today just two years later.
Oasis were nominated for five awards including Best Track and Best Album for their latest release "Don't Believe The Truth", which Q magazine described as "their most focussed, reflective and relaxed album to date".
Another British band, Coldplay, were nominated for four awards while singer James Blunt, American group Green Day and Irish rockers U2 received three nominations each.
Coldplay will be looking to take the Best Album category having won the title for "Parachutes" and "A Rush of Blood to the Head" in 2000 and 2002 respectively.
The awards, which will be hosted at the Grosvenor House Hotel on Monday October 10, are one of the few music industry prizes voted for by the record-buying public.

Oasis lead Q Awards nominations
Rock band Oasis are leading this year's Q Awards with five nominations. The band are shortlisted for best live act, best album, best video and best act in the world today, along with best track for The Importance Of Being Idle. Oasis won the best new act category in 1994.
Coldplay are competing for four awards, while James Blunt, U2, and Green Day have three nominations each.
The winners - voted for by Q readers, radio listeners and TV viewers - will be named on 10 October at The Grosvenor House Hotel in London.
Success
Oasis will be up against Coldplay, Green Day, U2 and Muse in the contest to be named best act in the world today and best live act.
In the best track category, The Importance of being Idle will battle Coldplay's Fix You, James Blunt's You're Beautiful, U2's Vertigo, and Black Horse and the Cherry Tree by KT Tunstall.
Coldplay will hope to repeat their successes in the best album category after winning with Parachutes in 2000 and A Rush Of Blood to the Head in 2002.
Other best album nominees include Oasis' Don't Believe the Truth, Back To Bedlam by James Blunt, Goldfrapp's Supernature and Employment by Leeds five-piece Kaiser Chiefs.
In the best new act category, Kaiser Chiefs will also be up against James Blunt, Jem, Hard-Fi, Magic Numbers and the Mercury-nominated MIA.
Gwen Stefani, Oasis, The White Stripes, Gorillaz and Green Day are all nominated for best video.
TV and radio presenter Jonathan Ross will host the award ceremony.
