COUNCILLOR has threatened prosecution after posters advertising the latest single from super group Oasis were fly-posted along Crouch End Broadway.
Crouch End ward councillor David Winskill (Liberal Democrat) accused the band of going through The Broadway "like a dose of salts" advertising their latest release The Importance of Being Idle.
Councillor Winskill said: "Oasis are a multi-million pound business. There's no reason why they can't pay for proper advertising like anyone else."
He has asked the council to explore the possibility of prosecution.
A spokeswoman for the band's record label Big Brother Recordings said: "We don't sanction illegal fly-posting so I will get them to take it down straight away. We don't pay for illegal fly-posting."
Out on the street opinion was divided about the posters on scaffolding hoardings.
Jeremy Wood, 28, a music distribution manager from Crouch End, said: "This councillor needs to do his research and think about who's responsible.
"The people to blame are not Oasis. He probably thinks Oasis have come around in their van and spent the night pasting posters up but it's not the case.
"And what are they messing up? Just white boards. If they were on the side of a church it would be different."
But Karen Dobie, 37, a student from Crouch End, said: "I would prefer it not to be there. It's unnecessary and so in your face. It's a kind of pollution."
