Yes, we all know that this October (the 2nd or 3rd, I believe) marks the 10-year anniversary of the release of (WtS) MG.
But isn't some time next week (I'm writing this on 8/11. That's August 11th) the 10-year anniversary of the great "Roll With It"/"Country House" smackdown, the Blur Vs. Oasis battle that launched a million record sales (well, maybe not as many millions for Blur in the long run, though I think "Country House" won that fight by a nose hair)? As I recall, I think both singles were released on August 15th, 1995, but I'm not positive.
Kind of interesting that (a) both bands are still around, in some form or another (Blur haven't officially called it quits, despite implying that they have or might); (b) neither band has included their particular song in recent tour set lists; and (c) I can't think of another Britpop contemporary from '95 that's still making records. WAIT! Supergrass!I love them! How could I miss them? And was Ash around then? Do the Charlatans count, since they're older? But Pulp, Elastica, Cast, Shed Seven, Gene… I'm sure I could go on. They've all called it quits/gone solo.
Okay, maybe it's not that interesting…

14th August it was, dates etched in my memory, big thing it was for me then Mainly because Blur put the date forward to get some publicity off Oasis, unforunately NME picked up on it and it worked. They then used every trick in the book to make sure that novelty single got to no.1. Was so funny when Oasis released Wonderwall a few months later and went supersonic.
