People, you may not like Guns N' Roses but they're definitely not a hair band. They came out when hair metal was the popular thing on radios, but they became HUGE because they brought a new music style to the scene with different influences from punk, blues, etc. To put them in the same category as the shitty hair metal bands of the time is just ignorance, I'm sorry. Slash's favorite band was the Rolling Stones, they covered songs from Paul McCarteney, the Beatles, the Rolling Stones...
My point was not related to the music anyway. I thought we were talking about popularity, and they they were huge, even more popular than Oasis (not in the UK, but in worldwide sales). That's just a fact btw.

And by the way, when Noel was in Brazil in 2001 (Oasis opened for Guns in Rock in Rio) he said that Guns N' Roses was probably the best live band he'd EVER seen, and that as long as they played 'Welcome to the jungle' it would be a good night. Hair metal...

ok i know this doesn't have alot to do what the thread was originall about... but the stuff said about nirvana and guns 'n roses got me wondering...
what were all three bands total album sales world wide? i think oasis sold around 45 million (acording to wikapedia i think), and some one already said on here that nirvana sold 50m and guns n roses sold 80m. are these numbers correct? cos if oasis is only 5m behind nirvana that shows how big they are.
i also read somewhere (don't remember where) that nirvana were the most successful rock artist of the 90s world wide based on album sales and that oasis was 2nd. this sounds right to me but there are some bands that were may not have been that big outside of the u.s but sold so many in it that they might be up there too. does anyone know if this is rite?

Guns annd Roses were mainly hair metal and therefore hard rock- those words were off a certain radio show, which I won't name to save the innocent

So is "gearhead" an English term for drug addict? Over here it means you're good with muscle cars.
