Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher is no stranger to controvery, this time having a pop at late Nirvana singer Kurt Cobain.
The outspoken Oasis singer insists he "didn't give a shit" when the Nirvana frontman tragically committed suicide in 1994, and brands the 90's grunge icon a "gearhead".
Speaking with Q Magazine Liam said:
"We were doing some gig when we heard Our Kid dedicated a song to him. Didn't give a shit myself.
"Smackhead, man. Not my problem. Couple of good tunes, but other than that, a gearhead."

I dont own ANY Nirvana stuff. Nor do I have any plans to ever go out and buy any of it. Back in the day I was/am a hardcore Smiths/Moz fan then Oasis came long. Nirvana never spoke to me. I thought they sucked then I think they/Dave Goon sucks now aswell. "We were doing some gig when we heard Our Kid dedicated a song to him. Didn't give a shit myself. "Smackhead, man. Not my problem. If I recall, back in 1994, Liam gave an interview where he said Cobain was a "sad sack who couldn't handle the fame." Something like that. Noel has always spoken highly of him, though.

He's defo held in higher regard coz he's dead, but I just think its a shame Nirvana were lumped in with all that other 'grunge' rubbish, for me they were more than that. Heart Shaped Box is one of the greatest 4 minutes of pop music IMO.

Ha...I must be the only one who skips that song....the only song that bores me to listen in such a great album. About Liam, well, it's HIS point of view...and I respect it, although I disagree

Noel has always spoken highly of him, though. yeah read the same dude... liam was in some lobby in nyc as i recall....back in mid 90's.. he said to some couple that kurt was a sad vagina and cld not handle the fame... the chick replied how he had just insulted the jfk of their time... kurt as u may know apparently did smack 2 self-medicate a non-specific massive stomach problem... was real bad... i remember courtney saying how his suicide was self-fish... it was on some level... who is to judge ? then she fuckin sold out her daughters dad and got his writings published.. i am on a roll... then courtey fucking gave dave g. and kris n. shit... no.. no no... peace

Probably the first time I've actually been truly appalled by something Liam has said. He is quite wrong.

Kurt didn't like being famous, I don't see anything wrong with that. if he didn't want to become famous, then why did he join a band in the first place? musicality? puh, sure...

I don't see why it's so hard to believe. Would you like to be famous? (please not the question is not 'Would you like to be rich?' ;D)

I dont think his problem was with becoming famous, more about the type of people who suddenly were buying his records and coming to his gigs, the same people who before Nirvans had some success wouldnt have crossed the road to listen to his songs.

No doubt Kurt was one of the most important muscians of recent times. He dragged America out of the crappy hair-metal bollocks over-night. The voice of 90s America, just like Noel was the voice of 90s UK. Nevermind is a classic record, although never liked much else apart from Heart-Shaped Box and All Apologies which are geniune classics. Unplugged is one of the greatest gigs ever as well.
What pisses me off now though is when you see 14yr old kids with greasy hair wearing Nirvana hoodies cos "he's like, dead man."

hey everyone needs an idol, or someone to look up to, no one here would make fun of me for saying Noel is the reason i first picked up an acoustic guitar, if they love nirvana's music, then that's great
p.s. Heart Shaped Box is my favorite nirvana song, hands down, thinking back to 1994 it's definitely the number 1 song that sticks out in my head, sorry its not Live Forever... MTV didnt play Live Forever non-stop like heart shaped box

Thought Dave was great on drums but other than that didn't give a shit either. Always preferred Mother Love Bone/Pearl Jam myself. I would suggest Stargazer or Crown of Thorns, great tunes.

Crown of Thorns is good. Pearl Jam still plays it live. I never was all that into Nirvana, but I do dig a few songs. Come as You Are is pretty cool.
