English singer Ian Brown is thrilled the Stone Roses' music legacy lives on through British rockers OASIS, and is proud of their success.
Both Oasis and the Stone Roses are from Manchester, north England, but Brown insists this doesn't mean they are rivals.
Oasis are equally complimentary about the Stone Roses and songwriter/guitarist Noel Gallagher collaborated with Brown on his last album, Solarised.
Brown says, "I never realised how talented he (Gallagher) was until I worked with him, I think because Oasis is a rock and roll project he doesn't always have the chance to shine.
"If the Roses had finished and there'd been no one from our city to carry it on, I'd have felt a bit sad, but Oasis always said we inspired them.
"The fact that they got so massive made me really happy. People come up to me and say, 'You must be p**sed off', but it was quite the reverse. I was pleased someone had seen something in what we'd done and taken it further." 04/07/2005 09:20

thanks for this post Sir Mape you get some karma man I fucking love the stone roses and IAN BROWN ! (who doesn't ?) Like in that Noel interview... he said the 1st time he heard "Sally Cinnamon" - from that moment on he knew what he wanted to do w. his life ! It is amazing in life when we are so strongly influenced and guided by someone esle. Inspirational. I LOVE in the "keep what ya got" video - when Noel and Ian HUG. awe.... and reportedly Ian was a catalyst for Liam. LIam went to a show and stated that when Ian walked off stage, he felt like he took a piece of him with him.. wow... anyway, If you know about any possible SR reunion, pls keep us yanks informed ! wld greatly appreciate it. Peace, tam aka Missus G.

I really can't see where The Stone Roses music has influenced Oasis. Can anyone give me actual examples of songs , coz I can't hear it. I have to admit I've only heard their hits like Sally Cinnamon , Bang the drum etc.. but to me they sound like the tailend of the Madchester scene whereas Oasis are more BritPop/Rock.

its not an influence as in rippin off the roses' music or taking bits outta songs. its about the attitude, the way brown owned the stage - like liam does now.
its about the gigging - which the roses were so famous for.
attitudes in interviews as well - if u ever saw ian brown and squire being interviewed, its the same as noel and liam today - they didnt take any shit from the media and gave honest opinions and werent fake. this is where a large influence exists.
i thank u.

Oasis sounded so much like them in the early days. That's what they meant. Liam said he decided he wanted to be in a band after a Stone Roses gig. But I tell you, Ian is cool guy but his singing is just plain awful

keep what ya got is really cool. I wish noel had kept that song for oasis I agree, but Noel had it tucked away for Ian. on the solarized web page there is a clip - the story behind the song, they met up in a restaurant etc. if you have not seen it. Peace and Love, MissusG

Yeah. I'd probably love the Roses more than Oasis if their output was greater.
Def Maybe and TSR are my two favorite albums

The Stone Roses didnt influence Oasis musically? Are you people on mind bending drugs?!!! My thoughts exactly. Up In The Sky, Roll With It, Who Feels Love?, Better Man - they could all be Roses songs. Come to think of it, the bassline in Who Feels Love? is straight from Waterfall.

am i the only 1 that doesnt rate the stone roses that highly,i can respect what they done for the music scene & the influenced bands like oasis but i think music wise oasis r superior, stone roses were a kind of beta version of oasis, they have a few good tunes but i rate oasis alot higher than them
