I'll tell you what!!!
Oasis has never done anything better after Be Here Now.
It was their last brilliant record.
I do agree that to a comercial point of view some of the songs are abit long, but you can always edit them.
I feel very frustrated that Oasis don't play a single song from that album on their gigs.
The only thing that should have been different is that Stay Young had to be the on the album ant should've been the 1st single, apart from that it is fantastic!!!

I like BHN almost as much as Urban Hymns, which says something since I think Urban Hymns is my second favorite album next to Defintiely Maybe...
When I have to do something that takes a bit more than an hour(like donate plasma) it's an album I listen to from start to finish - every song is worth listening to - even the much maligned Magic Pie is a great song. And if you're on the road driving cross state - just put it on and listen to it on repeat cranked to 11...

Honestly, it has one of my favorite songs of all time-- Fade In-Out. Fucking LOVE that song. Especially when Liam screams. DYKWIM, Magic Pie, Stand by me, Don't go Away, All Around the World, Be Here Now.... It's just fucking great.

i fucking LOVE be here now, the album and the song...the last 3 tracks alone make the cd brilliant....if they woudl just replace the all around the world reprise with stay young....oooooo
the ONLY song that i think could use shortening is DYKWIM....and only the parts where its jsut noise (like the HELICOPTER at the begining) this is a great rock album, great range too....from teh rocking my big mouth, to the anthemic(is that a word) stand by me to the masterpeice ballad dont go away, to the bluesy fade in out...to the odd be here now, and then all aroudn the world and its getting better man close it out with a great message and some brilliant songs......im gonna have a listen right now
ITS A CRIME that no demos are available, and the fact that they never play any of it

I were just going to start a thread about about this, but luckily someone else did!
All I've got to say is that regardless of song lenght, there are only about two or three songs off the album that don't stand up.
I don't care what anyone else says...... D'you Know What I Mean is just the most intense song. I love that song to fucking death. The way it was overproduced makes me fall for it even more.
My Big Mouth may be a simplistic powerchord-driven song, but it's still a strong rocker.
Magic Pie is a great ballad that is very lyrically cool.
Stand By Me is fucking amazing, as well. The song itself made for such a single. It's too bad people criticize it for being too long (5 mins)
Hope/Think/Know is really uptempo, which is great cos it rocks out somewhere along the lines of Headshrinker, though not quite as well.
Girl In The Dirty Shirt is pretty nonsensical lyrically, but it's got a lot of warm melody and I like the guitars
Fade-In/Out shows the band's diverse nature and it's got a lot of really interesting riffs. I've got to say that Liam's vocal track is awesome
Don't Go Away doesn't even need to be vouched for. Simply amazing.
Be Here Now was my least favourite song off the album until I heard some live work of it from G-Mex which I've got, and it sounds SOOOOOOOOOO good with the parts like Columbia. It's a kind-of strange Beatlesque melody which I can't quite understand
All Around The World is incredibly long, but it's really cool cos it's just so broar. And it's the only song with a key change (make that two). I just find that everyone is just building and building for the end. Oh yeah, and the verses are top quality.
It's Getting Better is the only song that I'd say should've been shortenned. However, it's got such a classy sound and it's strong lyrically once again.
And there we have it.... and album with a lot of amazing tunes. It's too bad that people didn't enjoy the self-centred approach to the album, but I mean, it's 100 million times better than hearing emo artists fucking moan about how life sucks. I think it's completely uplifting and a really summer in the sun album.
BHN is my favourite Oasis album, just narrowly followed by DM and DBTT. I think that they had a very well-writen album that would've made insane chart success and critical praise had it not been written and performed by the band who recorded "What's The Story Morning Glory?"
It's unfortunate that Noel failed under the pressure, but for Oasis fans (not just people who know the singles from MG) the album is still a very enjoyable one

Hi! I was thinking that I would like to talk about BHN, and I've been able to find this threat! Ok, first of all, I have to say that I didn't listen to BHN since 1998 maybe... I know I know... I'm the worst oasis fan in the world... =P But I read a lot of post about how good it was this album and I took it to listen to in the car and I have to recognize that it's so good, but! I've understood why I thought it was no good enough and why it didn't work in the spanish musical market at least... I think that there are 2 problems, so if Oasis had wanted to have a real success like DM or WTSMG they should have done another production of the album, so it's impossible for the normal people listen to 10 songs longer than 5 minutes each one... And many times the sound of the songs are stronger than the vocals and it could be difficult to understand what are they talking about... For this I think that Don't go away and above all Stand by me are the only songs that the "normal" people know about the album... cos the vocals are above the music... The other problem is that I think that the difference between WTSMG and BHN is not as big as it seems... cos I think that they stopped many songs of WTSMG in the just moment to be great and perfect for all of us... and perhaps they continue improving their own music and BHN is the result, and they enjoyed to do songs longer but for me this is the reason for this kind of articles... And why Oasis doesn't have the same publicity after the BHN... for example in spain, where DBTT doesn't have publicity in medias although it's a great album... Anyway, I'm glad to enjoy with BHN again! =) Adeu!

Another Be Here Now debate. ;D Well i've had my two pence worth on this many times before but...i'll do it again. ;D I can't really tell you anything that hasn't been written about B.H.N. My brief opinion on it all is that i don't think it's the catastrophe many people blurt out about it - which i think they only do because it became trendy to do so - but then again i don't think it's the classic many Oasis fans describe it as. Personally i don't think whatever Oasis did they could make a 3rd album that was as good as it was bein hyped up to be but themselves and Creation have got to shoulder alot of the blame for that themselves. Like i say it's got some superb songs on there - DYKWIM, My Big Mouth, Stand By Me, Fade In-Out and Don't Go Away - and i can't help but feel happy and upbeat after listening to I Hope, I Think, I Know and It's Gettin' Better (Man !!) but as everyone knows the album is too long, over produced and too slef indulgent for me. It was like the band starting to believe all the "bigger than the Beatles" comments and done way too much Charlie when writing. Some of the over production works - like on DYKWIM and Fade In-Out but the other songs don't justify it. I could go on forever but what i am typing isn't anything new really so what's the point? lol. All i will say is it's not as bad as some journo scum bags make out and Oasis could never live up to the hype afor the 3rd album - and Be Here Now is a great album to put on when the lads our round your house and the Stella's are being sunk rapidly. ;D So B.H.N? Well...it sits nicely in 4th place in my rating of Oasis albums - behind DM, MG and DBTT.

I hear you, man.
It's nice hearing some strong middle groung. The album is probably my favourite, though DBTT and DM are are really close.
I'd say that I got into it about 4 years after its release, completely unaware of the situation and critique, and I must say that made a huge difference for me. It wasn't until I was already mad into it that I found out it was so slagged.
I still much prefer listenning to it than MG.

I understand we you are coming from mimmi and the length of a sogn isn't the be all and end all but it does have a bearing on whether people like the song or not.
I mean imagine if Champagne Supernova was only 3 minutes long? It wouldn't be the hit it is IMO.
And Songbird - if that lasted 4 minutes i doubt i would like it as much.
Like i say on some songs the long running time really works - like on DYKWIM? and Fade In-Out - but on songs like Magic Pie & Girl In The Dirty Shirt it gets annoying and can put people off.
It certainly did with me i have to admit.
But the length of the songs isn't the be all and end all of an album.

With all of the hype that it got prior to its release, there was pretty much no way that it could deliver. It's a really good album, but I think people at that time expected it to be better than all of the Beatles' albums put together and multiplied by a hundred. How can any band live up to that kind of expectation. totaly agreed butty fair play

Also, regardless of song quality, I think Be Here Now features some of Liam's best vocal performances.

Searching for soul on an Oasis album, heh? good luck. (Noel's b-sides excepted)
Shallow? I think the album cover covered that.
Long? Track down Elsa.
Boring? Turn it up.
Empty? Of course.
When searching for meaning, I'll throw in O.K. Computer. When I want a meaningless Rolls belly up in the swimming pool - no better way than to chalk one up than by throwing on Be Here Now.
