It is a very political song. The lyrics are quite clearly attacking America (and its supporters) for starting another war in Iraq for no reason. For example:
"You get your history from the Union Jack" = US
"You get your mucky fingers burnt" = US getting screwed for starting a war (1,000+ soldiers dead, most now realize they lied about WMD and Iraq's connection to Al Qaeda, nobody trusts the US presidency)
"You get your truth from the lies you will learn" = how American public bought Bush's BS about Iraq's involvement in 9/11, WMD...
"And all your plastic believers will leave us and they won't return" = blindly patriotic Americans believeing in a war based on false pretenses
"and all your brothers and sisters have gone and they wont come back" = soldiers dying for their country for no reason

well done!!
theres 3 possible meanings that ive heard 1.) Noel is literally fed up in the city (too simplistic me thinks) 2.) The one posted aobve about the US (i support the war, but i understand how those lyrics make sense in context..V CLEVER and puts Eminems Mosh to shame) 3.) Tony Blair
--can someone explain how it would apply to Blair though?
def one of my fav songs, amazingly done

I don't known why you're all concerned about the lyrics, the song is tuneless.
Worst Oasis song ever!!! Shouldn't even be a b-side.

I don't known why you're all concerned about the lyrics, the song is tuneless. When i first heard MF - on The Jo Whiley show a week before the release of the album - i really didn't like the song, mainly because of it being "tuneless" as you put it magrelo but now i love it - because of the "tuneless" nautre of the song! ;D That tells you alot about my feelings towards Oasis - somedays certain songs sound amazing other days they bore me. Interesting stuff regarding the lyrics. Nice to see Noel writing about something.

Glad its about that. I can't stand the war personally, this generation's Vietnam. Glad Noel attacked Bush about it. Too bad no one in the mainstream will care like they did with Eminem. Oh well.

and noel always said his lyrics mean shit all =P changin his tune now, eh? oh well, i think its for the best, makes the lyrics more itneresting. anyway, whatever noel has said previously, i have always liekd his lyrics - simple and honest and in your face, and they have always meant something to me. but then again, i think everything gains meaning if you read into it enough...

I think let there be love is older, but who cares, maybe noel rewrote the lyrics, and he said it, he said is about Irak, he wrote the song. Liam usually thinks that all the noel lyrics are about him ;D MF is a great song, I hope noel put more interest in make good lyrics in the future

believe what you want, I personally can't see any obvious connection to the Iraq war...personally, i think you all are making stretches about fucking song lyrics. No one has produced any quotes from noel backing up that it is about the war. I personally just think it's about church and religion foremost, distrust in government, and the pessimistic urban life of city people...nothing specific about the Iraq war. What I said comes directly from the lyrics, no stretches whatsoever
