YORKE UNPERTURBED BY GALLAGHER CRITICISM RADIOHEAD frontman THOM YORKE is unconcerned about recent criticism LIAM GALLAGHER directed at campaigning rockers, because he believes in the causes he champions.
Yorke, who earlier today (25MAY05) backed British charity FRIENDS OF THE EARTH's campaign to reduce UK carbon emissions at a press conference in London, refuses to be drawn into a slanging match with the OASIS frontman.
He says, "I don't care about that (Gallagher's comments). At all."
Last week (ends20MAY05), Gallagher told of his contempt at musicians who speak out on environmental and political issues.
He said, "I'll be sitting at some award show 20 years from now with BONO, and the geezer from COLDPLAY (CHRIS MARTIN), and I'll say, 'Right, you didn't save the world, so you can f**k off, and you... you can go and wash your hand.'"

he's right. if you're in a position to influence opinion, be it good or bad, you should take that initiative if you so feel the need. the british and american systems of law and advocacy are intertwined and closely related. here in the states, we still cite brit common law in our cases. i admire the person more if they do partake in speech and more specifically, political speech. oasis might have better music, but i respect tom yorke much more than the apolitical gallaghers.

If you think thats bad Hollywood's Liberal asses are worse.
Have millions then go protest about Emissions (in their big cars) The Rain Forest (as they pose for countless magazines printed on the paper from those trees) and go to countless 'Charity Balls' for something that know nothing of.
Hell Paris Hilton got involved with all the 'Political' music people in the U.S. with it's 'Vote or Die' campaing and DIDN'T VOTE.
Most people in Entertainment just spout out like they are a common person but then go back to their mansions.
Most common people don't have time to protest............they are late for work!
Liam's right.

I'd definitely voice my opinion if I was a big rockstar. I wouldn't act like some enlightened intelectual fellow though. I hate those types. I'd just make my stance known, and do what I could about it.

I think it's good when Rock stars and musicians speak out for a cause they feel passionate about. Why not use their popularity to voice their opinion or let a cause be known to the masses. Just my opinion.

Liam's right. you don't like 'liberals' in the US do you??? I'm afraid we're all liberal in Britain. It means you can say how you feel. If you don't like what a celebrity says then ignore them, but I agree with Yorke. We're going to be underwater sooner or later unless we do something about it.

I think by 'common' he must have meant unintelligent and may have been including himself in that bracket

No I am very intelligent. It was a quote from a Political talk show I once heard.
I am 35 and very intelligent. The quote was in the context of the fact that everytime you see organized protests and rally's against things such as the WTO, Global Warming or any other World Issue, the people that are there are 90% college students that have swung to the left but are supported by mom and dad back home working in the corporate world.
The 'real' people that are most affected by social-economic policy are punching a clock and can't get off work to wear a mask, make signs and march.
If you ever watch 'Platoon' there is a scene where Charlie Sheens character is asked why he is in Vietnam b/c he looks so 'educated' and his response was that he volunteered b/c he thought 'why should all the poor people go and fight'.
A poor black soldier commented that "you have to be rich in the first place to think like that".
By the way there is no word 'stupidest'.
Try Most Stupid!
P.S. Oasis Rules!!!
Can we get back to that.

Thom is right. Liam is speaking some stupid shit out of the main topic... I don't just say it because I'm Radiohead fanatic (I'm and I don't care at all of other opinions). I really think that Liam is speaking stupid things... And I don't see what is so fucking big about these words? I wouldn't care at all like Thom... That's just plain stupid.

Liam never talks anything but pure shite. He's still the best rock singer of his generation though so I try and look past his deranged ramblings.

Well we'll have to agree to disagree then, it's just you did put it in a very crass way initially.
Why though should a students view be any less viable than that of a working adult. In fact your argument seems to prove the stranglehold that a neo-liberal capitalist system has on its population. ie - Working adults are not compelled to think against the status quo as they are under the stranglehold of its chief protagonists.
Ever heard of the phrase 'property is theft'
I think thats rather apt here.

my 2 cents... I read what the rest of ya said and I hear ya. for me with Liam - it depends on the situation, ppl involved, what he says and why ? for ex. a ways back when he slagged off Chris Martin for banging on about politics at a children's cancer benefit, he was spot on ( I DIG Chris mind you..) . there are other situations that I am not sure about. And I never rely on the media reporting things accurately and in the right context as someone else mentioned above. thank you very much. I still love Liam and love that MOUTH of his actually ! he's brilliant and way smarter than the media portrays him & vice versa.. be well
