My full blown view (just sent this to my U2 supporting friend, i think i made some good points.....your comments?)
the thing i like about oasis is that they dont want the hollywood image, and they dont care about awards. They are in it for the music and the music only. It just so happened that 1995-1996 they were considered the worlds biggest band at that time, then they lost it, but looks like they are starting to regain their popularity once again. With Coldplay soon to be gone, possibly after this album, Oasis will once again be the biggest band in the world. They don't live in mansions, they don't care about their looks or their actions (and thats why they are hated in the U.S). Infact, you could even catch them in a pub in London occasionally. How often do you see Bono (if he was in FL for argument sake)? not that often, WHY? cos he cares too much about himself to mingle with the public. Bono is too egotistical, thats why i hate him.
Sure, U2 were bigger, but not anymore. U2 are has beens, i still stand by that point of view, and it wont be long until they stop too.
Oasis are the Kings of 90s Rock and Roll, and possibly going into the 2000s....U2 is just U2, thriving off their previous success of 20 odd years ago.
I guess we have to wait until the Oasis album is released--compare it to U2's latest album, and make the final judgment in whose more popular in 2005. Eitherway, Oasis are still producing quality music, U2 on the other hand are not. Oasis release albums 2-3 years apart, U2 now release albums 4-5years apart (starting to slow down). Oasis have been revived, rezerected if you will, U2 are 5+ years past it.
Final verdict: U2 are a spent force, Oasis are regaining their form.

I agree with you. I think it's time U2 pack it in. Their new material is far below the material they released a decade ago. They solely thrive off of their past success.

No band that has done what U2 has done over the years should just "Pack it in" and although im not a huge fan they do make good music(and about 8 million people worldwide who bought the latest album would agree, no 1 in 42 countries including the US is going some). I have a friend who is a massive U2 fan and he reverses the argument back to me concerning oasis, he heard Lyla and said it's the boring same old shit, to which i said wait for the album(having heard the clips) and judge it then but he said he would'nt buy it as there a spent force also. Either way there both top bands who we need in the world to save us from the generic shite peddled by 50 cent, lil jon and the rest of this piss ant trend of music! Crunk what the fuck is crunk , I was in a club saturday and that 50 cent candyshop came on and the place went nuts, i was stood there watching the girls doing that arse shaking malarky(which was a highlight of the night mind you ;D) and thinking what is going on this ain't music man its some mumbling fuck talking over a ZX spectrum tape loader in which he had no involvement in creating Pap i tell you complete pap. Long live rock n roll, doggboy

As much as I love Oasis outside of the UK they're not the biggest band in the world anymore Not according to record sales anyway. I wish they were huge here in Australia still to increase my chances of seeing them again. Unfortunantly there's too many people here who love annoying whiney shit groups like Simple Plan.

Oasis have been revived, rezerected if you will, U2 are 5+ years past it. Final verdict: U2 are a spent force, Oasis are regaining their form. 1- If Bono has an ego and you hate him, you must loathe Liam 2- U2 'were' bigger? Please check album sales and sold out concert numbers in THE ENTIRE world, especially for the last tour, and compare them to Oasis. You will see that U2 had one of the top 3 tours of 2001. Did Oasis do the same thing in 2002? Unfortunately, no. U2 relying on the past success? What do you think Heathen Chemistry was? I love Stop Crying, Hindu, etc, but the album was obviously borrowing the old 'Oasis' sound. This is cool, btw, I'm just making a point. 3- Oasis are the kings of RnR in the UK, without a doubt, among other places. Kings of the world heading in the 2000's? Nope. We're halfway done the decade and they're still trying to regain the old touch. 4- You're comparing a band that has been around for 3 decades to a band that has been around for 1 and actually trying to make an argument about when they release albums??? When Oasis gets into their 3rd decade, analyze how fast they release records then. I'm as big as an Oasis fan as the next person, but you obviously have blinders on if you actually believe all this stuff...

~I understand what you are all trying to say... BUT, I think comparing U2 to Oasis is like comparing Apples and Oranges. ~U2 is a POLITICAL BAND and then got into ROCKNROLL. Blah blah...The man (BONO) has a GLOBAL mission and God Bless him. Bono's got the CHARISMA, like a preacher... ~Oasis is pure ROCKNROLL , not on a political or social mission, Liam's got THAT VOICE, the style, working class chic thing and the ATTITUDE and GOD BLESS HIM TOO ! (for different reasons...) God Bless Noel too ! ~ I hear what you are saying though and I wld be PLEASED to see oasis gain some acknowledgement again in the states.. (maybe more important to us than them ) ~ I bought and a cousin 2 tickets to oasis in philly for June. This is my grass roots effort to spread the word and the music. It means SOMETHING to me on a very deep and personal level (Oasis tunes) so I hope to pass it on Peace, Tamara

What do you mean Colplay gone after this album ? Apparently Chris Martin (I like him VERY MUCH), is going "mental." Like freaking out over playing new stuff, feels under massive pressure, mentioned maybe this is the last album, blah blah... keep the 3 as a trilogy. Would not suprise me. He states he's always been a real worry wart type. Plus he'll be having more kids, passing them off to gwenyth to nurse, while he is making organic babyfoods and washes those cloth diapers Be well, my 2 cents, Tamara

You're overly biased, but I guess I should expect that in an Oasis forum. U2's new album is a good record. The first single was shit, but the other two were good songs, along with the majority of the album. It could easily sell more records than Oasis' new album. Why Lyla was released I'll never know. The Importance of Being Idle and Mucky Fingers sound so much better from what I've heard on that video clip. U2 should take a break after this album and reasses themselves. They are like 45+ now.
I'm saddened to see that Oasis might not catch in North America because of a shitty first single. I hope their follow up is top notch. I'm not saying Lyla is shit, but it doesn't represent the bands growth or new directions. Fuckin Sony. It sounds like an old 95 demo to me.

Coldplay is absolutely done after this album, unless they have the wits and will to stick around like Oasis did after 95.
As for U2 the are a good band, I find this latest album lacking though. Doesnt have quite as much to say, which is the U2 logo, as past releases. No matter what though Bloody Sunday will remain will be one of most spectacular rnr songs written.
As for Oasis, they are absolutely in it for the fans and the music, and I will be fuckin mad fer it till the day I die because I appreciate all they have done for us loyals (esp in the States, releasing a MSG show with disappointing albums sales on the past 2 releases was a god welcomed sign, so glad it sold out so quickly.)

I agree that Lyla isnt the best first single, but whats amazing is that it is catching, looked at my home town (which is very small) and Lyla was the most requested song there. While MTV due to its absolutely stupid infatuation with pop culture may never catch on, radio shows the unbiased uncorporate truth.

i just read the beginning of this debate so please forgive me as a person who hates to look at that fat little ugly preachy person who sings for u2.
u2 have done some great songs in he past and some ok songs on the new album..bla,bla,bla,
that forgives bono being a dick for 20 years?
join amnesty because bono says so. eat tofu because bono says so. support nelson mandela because bono says so. support the new pope because bono says so.
if bono said that it was cool to join the nazi party would his fans do that then?
probably.
third rate clash wannabee who wrote a few good songs.
