if artists have a big comback album after an already long career then their record company tries to release a greatest hits pack. like aerosmith with their 6 or 7th hits package

I doubt that would fit onto 1 disc.
Which is somewhat unfortunate, b/c a well-priced, one-disc "best of" CD could do wonders for Oasis in the U.S. Hopefully, the new album will do that though!
I think it'd be best if you split it into two disc. Maybe 1 disc covering 1994-1997 (DM, MG, BHN, plus all the b-sides and Whatever) and one disc covering 2000 to 2005
Disc 1
1. Rock n' Roll Star 2. Live Forever 3. Wonderwall 4. Acquiesce 5. Talk Tonight 6. Don't Go Away 7. Stand By Me 8. Some Might Say 9. Whatever 10. Supersonic 11. Cigarettes & Alcohol 12. The Masterplan 13. Don't Look Back in Anger 14. Slide Away 15. Champagne Supernova
Disc 2
Less clear on what exactly should go on. Maybe a few b-sides as well?
Perhaps from Giants - Go Let it Out, Who Feels Love? (maybe a shorter edit), Sunday Morning Call (?), Gas Panic, maybe Where did it All Go Wrong
From Heathen Chemistry - The Hindu Times, Stop Crying Your Heart Out, Songbird, Little By Little
From Don't Believe the Truth - Keep the Dream Alive, The Importance of Being Idle, Lyla, Let There Be Love (?)
So something like this:
1. The Hindu Times 2. Idler's Dream 3. Go Let it Out 4. Let's All Make Believe 5. Songbird 6. Little By Little 7. Stop Crying Your Heart Out 8. Keep the Dream Alive 9. Gas Panic! 10. Where did it All Go Wrong? 11. Lyla 12. The Importance of Being Idle 13. Who Feels Love? 14. Let There Be Love

hasn't sony used up it's 6 albums already? I wonder if the next company to sign Oasis will release one immediately to cash in quick.

I like the idea of a greatest hits album. It's a great way to hold fans over, but mainly the casual public over until the next album. With Oasis releasing an album every 2 years it's easy to see why people wonder what happened to them. Oasis would have a big Greatest Hits package that would do well on the Billboard charts. It also gives them a chance to throw a new single or 2 on it.

The record deal excludes 'Best Of's' and compilations - they don't count as albums. That's why neither The Masterplan nor Familiar To Millions count as fulfilling the Sony contract. And to the guy who started this thread, there is no way I Hope, I Think, I Know would ever get on any Best of Oasis - maybe if they were releasing a 5 CD set and they were hard up for stuff to put on disc 5 (which they never would be - too much great stuff!) Personally I hope they DON'T release a Best Of, it is a creatively bankrupt venture done purely for money, and I agree, should be the last thing any band does before splitting. Although if the band leave Sony then one will probably come out, as the label will be looking to cash in (especially if DBTT is a big hit). If they DO release one though I would like to see it done like U2's Best Of's - 2 CD sets with one for singles and the other for B-sides and album tracks.

more to the point where the hell's anything off DBTT??!!
Don't like Best Of's/ Greatest Hits until a band is finished (ie then you can claim that the record is in fact the Best Of or whatever)
they serve no proper purpose other than making the rich richer otherwise
but once a band is finished go for it i say.

Does anyone think a greatist hit album will appear in a few years? I doubt it. Noel was against The Masterplan album so if he has a say then oasis will not lower themselves to a greatest hits.

2 discs? i love oasis, but they don´t have 30 FUCKING GREAT songs to put in their greatest hits... so 1 disc is ok:
rock´n´roll star, live4ever, columbia, supersonic, cigs & alcohol, wonderwall, CS, DLBIA, some might say, stand by me, don´t go away, the masterplan, listen up, fuckin in the bushes, go let it out, the hindu times, SCYHO, turn up the sun, the importance of being idle, let there be love... 20 songs is ok

Stand by me has to be in the Top Ten. I don't understand why people doesn't count with it, and prefer Fade In-out (except Supersonic 1983, you know what's good man!) Ehh.. I'm from Spain and I don't know what's IMO and lol... I think IMO is "for instance" and lol is something like "ooh yeahh". Am I right? Cheers

greatest hits should be at least 6 CDs ;D seriously noel said it is for dead bands and bands which have no longer success...totally agree with him!!! and he has also said that it would be a nonsense because maybe he hasn't written his best song yet
