After reading the sun review which in all was pretty darn good, Theres just one thing that irks me more than anything the constant comparison between Coldplay and Oasis! So much so i sent an e-mail to the Victoria Newton who reviewed it to air my rant. Heres what i wrote(Bit off an essay but i had to say it) I've just got to say was there any need for the numerous comparisons to coldplay in todays review of the new Oasis album?, There 2 completley different Bands/Sounds in todays music scene, In which i believe there is no reason whatsoever to compare these 2 brilliant bands because it will create a divide on either side of the bands fans and maybe sway a certain side not to go and buy or at least listen to the other album(which would be a travesty as both are integral to the british music scene being exciting and creative) I also want to know what qualifies Victoria Newton(If indeed she did write it) as a music critic? as this latest review smacks of a coldplay fan trying to give an objective review of a band that are viewed in some peoples eyes as "past it" but in reality Oasis paved the (and continue to) way for the Coldplays, Razorlight, Kasabians to be accepted in such a corporate, money driven music/Lifestyle world, I also remember the "Coldplay breaks america where Oasis could'nt" argument in the very same portion of the Sun a while back!, Even though Coldplays US sales pale in comparison to Oasis' and even more so U2 (Whats the story alone sold 18 million worldwide and 4.5 Million in America, and Be here now Charted at #2 in the american charts and went on to sell nigh on 10 million worldwide!) All im trying to say is i think when reviewing albums of this magnitude you should consult a genuine music critic of that genre and not a gossip journalist, for an unbiased informative review because comments such as the following discredited your review in my opinion and i quote "Overall it sounds a lot like a modern twist on the Fab four's classic LP Revolver" which to any music lover of average intelligence would tell you that knowone has ever come close to repeating the absolute genius that The Beatles created on that masterpiece least of all coldplay!, So im intrigued would you say Coldplays X & Y is better than Revolver?(Again in my opnion you can't compare the 2 in the same way you can't compare Stevie Wonder to Bob Dylan, Frank Sinatra to Elton John and so on...) All i ask is for a record to be viewed on what it actually is(sounds like) and if your going to compare it to something it has to be there own body of past work(something i don't totally agree with). Thanks Do you agree or am i just being a gobshite? ;D cheers doggboy10

I don't think there is a comparison. I mean, OASIS are a great rocknroll band whereas Coldplay are like, the dumbest thing ever.

I agree incomparible totally, Although i do like Coldplay they have'nt written anything close to either definitely Maybe or Morning Glory, Parachutes was ok(4 possible great tracks the rest second rate travis imo) A rush of blood was alot better but for me was lacking something(although the scientist, Green Eyes and pollitik are classics) Cheers doggboy10

Coldplay are alright, but they lack the fire, passion, and intensity of Oasis. Even though Oasis aren't what they once were (who is after 11 years?) Coldplay will never achieve what Noel and Liam did from 1994-1996. Coldplay have some good songs, but they just don't do it for me. They become monotonous after awhile.

Coldplay might be good at what they do, but it's not rock n roll. Oasis is a rock n roll band.

Come on "Parachutes" or whatever? You can't come at LIVE FOREVER with that weak piano pop shit.

There are no real comparisons between Oasis and Coldplay, except for the fact that both bands make excellent records, sell a lot of albums, and have millions of fans around the world. Their music is nothing a like. But to say that Coldplay doesn't have the same passion as Oasis ludicrous. If they lacked passion, they wouldn't be where they are today. Anyone who plays any form of music plays with passion.

Coldplay have been around for about 5-6 years now. And what have they REALLY done? i'll tell you.....Fuck all. I mean, Parachutes.....apart from Yellow, its crap. i've never heard such a bland album in my life. And ROBTTH was better but come on, it aint a classic.
Lets go back to 1994 when Oasis came on the scene. In 5 years (that'll take them upto 1999). They'd released 3 albums and 1 b-side album (the b side album pisses all over whatever coldplay have done). They played the biggest gigs ever over two nights and, this is a fact, nothing could touch them. They worked their drug-addled arses off but they still never really got respect musically
As far as im concerned Coldplay shouldn't be in the same genre as Oasis in the first place. Oasis are rock n roll. Coldplay come under the same league as Keane, Snow Patrol etc..(basically, the bands that aint gonna be remembered in 50 years time).
To me Oasis will be remembered like The Beatles are remembered and the stones and the who, the jam etc...

Lets not turn this into a I hate Coldplay thread cos i don't, I think Chris Martin is a great singer/songwriter and Coldplay are an excellent band. My argument is the media's constant strive of a new battle of the bands between oasis and Coldplay. Just appreciate both bands for what they are, Great exponents of british music.
cheers

However, they are in the same genre of music with U2.

I think a lot of people hate Coldplay because they're doing quite well for themselves. They've found a niche in today's music scene.

this is why relativism sucks, it sucks in music and it sucks in art and it sucks in morality b/c you never get anywhere...
This "that's your opinion", "that's your opinion" stuff is hilarious. What the hell is the point of a discussion forum if it's just opinions that can't be changed or that aren't based on anything etc.
If it really is just an opinion then fine
END OF DISCUSSION
what are you doing in a discussion forum though?
If you want it to continue you have to make it MORE than JUST YOUR OPINION
I like ice cream I dislike ice cream is a pointless "discussion" I think ice cream is good b/c x, y, z Actually, x, y, z are poor reasons and in fact it is bad b/c j, k, l is a discussion
your choice

Cookie dough is the best flavor of ice cream and that's all there is to it.
Sherbert is for losers.

funnily enough I don't really think of sherbert or cookie dough as ice cream, probably partially because I think that sherbert actually isn't icecream - it's sherbert/sorbet. Anyway cookie dough is definitely very good - but not something I could have all the time
