NEW YORK (Billboard) - Oasis' new studio album, christened "Don't Believe the Truth," is schedule for release May 31 in North America.
The Big Brother Recordings/Epic title will hit international markets a day earlier.
The set's first single, "Lyla," will precede the set on May 16.
According to guitarist Noel Gallagher, the single "was specifically designed for pogoing. We wrote 66 tracks, and 'Lyla' was one that we revisited late on, and it's ended up on the album. I'm happy with every track on the album."
"Don't Believe the Truth" is the follow-up to 2002's "Heathen Chemistry," which debuted at No. 23 on the Billboard 200 and has sold a career-low 140,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan. But the set was a major U.K. hit, debuting at No. 1 on the territory's album chart.
Oasis will play its first North American shows in three years this summer, beginning June 17 in Toronto. That run will be bracketed by U.K. headlining dates and European festival appearances, including three sold-out stadium shows in the band's Manchester, England, hometown.

I will say this. Rock 'n roll fans (especially with taste) in the states are older like 27+ and older. The younger kids are almost all hip-hop & dance pop.
Most of them (rock fans) don't watch MTV and if they ever do (there is rarely any videos EVER!)
You must have MTV2 or a great radio station in your city to even hear good rock'n roll that isn't pop-punk or nu metal.
Also albums are usually only hits if their is a hit single that gets tons of airplay.
For example that horrible Chumbawumba cd 7 years ago sold 3 million albums maily b/c everyone was buying it for that song".......I get knocked down & get up again...."
It outsold BHN!!!
If any of the Oasis singles are great AND marketed here in the states then this cd could sell well.
Everyone of my friends that has heard HC has liked it (all have roughly same tastes) but most of them are early to mid 30's and there not "die hards" w/ rock n roll anymore. They buy what they hear. Most of them don't remember anything after BHN...........some even MG, b/c of airplay.
Oasis MUST get a single that is a hit (even if die hard Oasis fans think it's not the best song on cd) to get massive attention again.
It also didn't help that oasis last tour was very small and cut short by the car accident in Indianapolis w/ Noel.
Coldplay almost comes off as adult contemporary rock in the US, so they fit a format. Oasis can be alternative to rock to hard rock to psychelic so it's hard to peg.
Once again......no massive single.............no massive album sales.
Will probably do a bit better than HC just on the larger tour.
I will tell you that a lot of people next to me at concerts on the last tour were waiting for Wonderwall & Champagne...but neither were played.

I am 25 and anyone younger than me lietens to that hip hop bullshit. I would like for someone to explain to me what instruments these rappers play. I thought it was essential that music have instruments. Otherwise it is just electronic noise. Oasis rules. |

Well I have to disagree with that, I'm 15, come from England, obsessed with Oasis since I was 6 years old (and The Beatles) and like a whole range of Rock/Classic Rock from The Beatles to Oasis, Beach Boys to Guns N Roses, The Who to Metallica and The Rolling Stones to Tenacious D, and most of my friends also feel the same way in their attitudes towards music. Yes, some people like Rap and Hip Hop (eventhough what is considered 'Hip Hop' today, is nothing compared to what it used to be), but can anyone be suprised seeing as the majority of radio and music channels on TV are jam packed with Usher, 50 Cent and Lil John.
