Oasis will never get big in holland again because:
they haven't played a proper gig here (holland) since 1997
dutch people don't like rock n roll stars, they like clean cut popstars who constantly tell them they love holland (coldplay, live, the darkness)
When dutch people get news on Oasis its negative. Most people only know them through Wonderwall and the fighting between the brothers. Most of it is just lies but the dutch don't care.
Dutch people are supposed to be very openminded, but most of them are not. When the press started knocking Oasis' every move the dutch people believed it.
The music climate for rock n roll bands is terrible. You need a shit ballad to get some airplay. If someone can explain to me why Stop Crying Your Heart Out did nothing in Holland and songs by Coldplay and Keane reach the top 5...please tell me....
but there were loads of us at Finsbury Park so dutch Oasis fans do EXIST

Germany seems to love Oasis, i was at the Hamburg gig in 2003 and the crowd was amazing. Maybe i should move...

Fair enough, but never ever move to germany... and about the popularity in holland: I think people dont like oasis' attitude, so they dont even care about the music. They just dont bother to listen and see if its good or not. Here in holland, you realy have to search for good music like oasis. If you dont put energy in it, youll never know what kind of music is around. The airplay is filled with only big popstars, that are allready popular in the whole world. I think the musci stations listen too much to kinds in de age range of 10 to 15. These kids mostly dont know anything about music, and only look up to the person, popstar, who sings and dances it. I dont bother anymore, I found what I like, I know where to find it, and I dont give a shit about the majorities opinion anymore.

Ya know, the thing is ...
People in Holland only know Oasis by the song Wonderwall and maybe by Don't Look Back In Anger or Go Let It Out.
Last one and a half year, i haven't seen a single Oasis videoclip on TV (Tmf, MTV, The Box) and haven't heard a single song beside Wonderwall on radio. It's not a mirecle young people don't get into Oasis.
Oasis themselfs haven't been around here since 1997. The real fans had to go to England or Germany to see a Oasis gig. Thats not loyal to the fans. Keane and Coldplay have been here at least more then 3 times in 2 years. Oasis' lost gig in Holland was 'bout almost 8 years ago. They haven't even played on a single festival.
I thing this explances a lot

Partly true...
Part of me thinks youre right. I wouldnt have taken that from anybody myself. On the other hand; As a band, youre also supposed to think about your real fans, and not some bunch of losers on a festival area. Plus that I heard that he sweared at the audience. Well, than you can expect a reaction like that, especially on a festival, because not everybody comes especially for you...

Yeah true,
And I hope Oasis has been grown wise. I hope they see the good things 'bout doing some gigs in Holland. And offcourse a bunch of members were on drugs at the time. I think Oasis is that not rebelion anymore, they've grown wiser. They're not drugged up anymore.
Doing Parkpop next year would be good fer them by the way. Parkpop is the biggest free festival in Europe with more than 500.000 (!) visitors (yeah they're Dutch so when its free .... ). Atmosphere is great, and people are mad fer it. A very huge bunch of those 500.000 people are very young, only, they haven't experienced the "Oasis period" . That was already some years ago now. Those people are mad fer bands like The Dandy Warhols, Jet, The Strokes etc., so it wouldn't be a problem for Oasis to get populair again to a great bunch of new generation future Oasis fans. And let's hope this time there will be no rubbish-throwin' bastards around.

im affraid when they come to holland again, lets say parkpop, liam will give some comment about the pinkpop incident and things will end up the same. thatll be no surprise to me.
I think theyd better play werchter or so.
The best sollution imo is to just give 2 or 3 gigs over here in ahoy, or maybe smaller like HMH or so. Then therell only be real fans and im sure the gig will be great and the reviews will be good.

Except for mine, i've only seen one oasis-shirt around (at pukkelpop this year), i really think they should come and play Belgium, or Holland, or both damned, so they become big here again!

Mate, if you take a look at all the posts, youll notice that this whol thread is in english, so everyone can join in. Only the subject is ABOUT holland, and written in english. And btw: there are also threads about only guitars, while not every member plays the guitar so neither can they join in. If you dont like it, dont join the discussion. If you do, youre more than welcome to join. cheers...

whahaha well okay, here it comes :
Why are bands like Keane, Coldplay, The Strokes and Jet populair in Holland (which make music a bit like the Britpop/Oasis/Blur/Radiohead era), what makes them different from Oasis ?
|
|
|
Post by IAmKloot on Sept 2, 2004 16:16:16 GMT -5
Keane and Coldplay are such nice guys, they learn some dutch and the crowd love them for that. Plus Oasis haven't been putting in the work over here, they did some radio stuff in 200 and 2002 but no proper gigs.
add that to the negative attitude from dutch press towards Oasis and theres your reasons. Every rumour the tabloids make up in Englands gets on the MTV news without checking if its true. And they are very selective, big story on Liam and Noel fighting with Starsailor but when they made up they ignored it. They even accused Liam of copying Ozzy. Cos Ozzy says fuck a lot now Liam Gallagher does that too. Liam said fuck long before Ozzy sold his soul to MTV but there you go...
and loads of bands are slagging Oasis off, the darkness, the music, coldplay, robbie williams all made comments on Oasis. Mind you, its never about the music
The biggest music magazine we have (Oor) gave SOTSOG and HC really good reviews but after a few weeks they slagged it off every chance they got.
anyway, Oasis are in no way perfect and they should work harder in Holland but the dutch should be a but more openminded and not believe every rumour they hear.

Well said IamKloot!
the dutch believe everything thats said to them by the (music)press. And if the press doesnt like oasis, than so does the avarage dutchman. The press doesnt like bigmouths like oasis, and cant handle their attitude. They simply cant do anything right these days, they just cant.
too bad, but theres realy nothing you can do about it, cuz were in the minority...

I think the only ones who can do something about it at this point is Oasis themselfs. They haven't done anything to prove thereselfs to the Dutch in a good way. Well, let's say, I haven't noticed. I'm not sayin' they didn't try, but at least they have to try harder.
Maybe the solution is just to promote themselfs better up here. On the other hand, I can understand a bit of this whole thing. Holland is to small for Oasis. Countries like Germany and Italy are much bigger and commercienal speakin', much more interesting. But I hope/believe Oasis have the heart on a good place, and come up here to promote themselfs better, and play some gigs, just for the real dutch Oasis fans.
So common guy, Hung In A Dutch Place !
right ?
cheers !!!
