Hi, I'm new. I also want to say that I'm a fan of many bands and, while I would probably not say Oasis is my absolute favorite band, they're certainly one of my favorites. Definitely Maybe is one of my all-time favorite albums and I love (WTS)MG and Masterplan as well. I generally don't like BHN except for a few songs and I think SOTSOG is good but uneven. Heathen Chemistry is good, just not as good as the first two, IMO.
Anyway, as to the subject of this thread, Oasis has a horrible selection on iTunes in the US. All that US Oasis fans can download from the iTunes Music store is DM, Masterplan, BHN, Sotsog (partial), and FTM (partial). HC and TM are only available by individual songs. They don't even have (WTS)MG!
For a US fan, this is crap. True, I don't need any of the proper albums - I have them (exc. for FTM). But they should all be offered, and at the recommended price of $9.99, not the $10.89 and $11.89 prices shown.
What they REALLY need, even for the US site, is to put up ALL the UK singles and EPs online, including all the non-Masterplan B-Sides. 4-song EPs could be sold for about $3, 3-song singles for about $2. All could be available individually as well. And they could offer some other things as well: the warchild "fade away," "sad song," "bonehead's bank holiday;" the radio and single edits for "Champagne Supernova," "DYKWIM," and "MG" - they'd be good for burning mixes.
As a US fan, I have never heard the proper studio versions of "Step Out" or "D'yer wanna be a spaceman," I've never heard "Round Are Way," or "It's Better People," among others, and the only version of "Whatever" i have is a low-quality download that doesn't include what's supposed to be an acoustic guitar intro.
These songs NEED to be available! I'm close to ordering some of the singles off of amazon, but I don't want to. I already have The Masterplan and the singles are expensive to buy overseas. It seems like a huge expense to buy the entire Roll With It single if all I want is "It's Better People," or the entire Wonderwall single if all I want is "Round Are Way."
How's the UK store and anybody have any comments on this?

i am a bit shocked by some of the facts u presented. i thought the US was the biggest/most important and most complete music market in the world but what does Sony Music do after all. do they actually promote one of their best selling acts? the least thing they could do is put official releases in the stores.´<br>no miracle why oasis have probs to sell cds or just get new fans in the states: there is no demand if there is no supply.

Sony completely abandoned the US after BHN, which was a debacle in the US. It soared to number 2 on release day and then crashed. None of the singles played well, exc. for "Don't Go Away" which had some success as a radio single.
They've completely stopped promoting Oasis, and it seems like the band itself doesn't give a shit. I haven't heard an Oasis single on the radio in years. HC was released to little fanfare. Many mainstream publications didn't even review it. It's sold only 200,000+ copies.
Frankly, exc. for Wonderwall, Oasis is pretty much forgotten. I'm 19, and I'm one of the few people in my age group that even knows about Oasis - plenty of others remember Wonderwall but don't even know what band made them. Oasis is slagged in the music press (even though they were universally praised back in 95/96) if it's even mentioned. It's ridiculous. The fact is, if Oasis is even remembered in the US it'll be as a "one-album wonder" for (WTS)MG. I tell you, even DM, which I consider better than MG, never sold more than 500,000 copies.
Fact is, the corporate-controlled US media conglomerates have pretty much stifled US radio. Every pop station plays the same 6 tired tracks. The gargantuan Clear Channel Communications owns most of the radio stations in the US and creates corporate-approved playlists that all the stations play. All that's on the radio is rap and hip-hop, and some crappy post-punk and post-grunge. (I'm not even saying that all rap and post-punk is bad. They're not really my type of music, but there is an audience for them and there are some true artists among both. It's just that even those rap and post-grunge acts that are good are almost never played. We constantly here Nickleback and Creed - horrible, horrible post-grunge bands).
British bands have fared horribly since the mid-80s. The Stone Roses were never big here. Oasis was probably the biggest British band in a long time, but after selling 4 million copies of (WTS)MG, they fizzled here. Blur was a one-hit wonder - only Song 2 was a hit. Pulp and Suede never had any traction. Travis bombed. Both Franz Ferdinand and the Darkness have been trying to make it this year, but I don't think either's having much success. Only Coldplay has had some success in the past couple years, going multiplatinum and Radiohead has a cult following.
It's a really sad music scene. There's so much good music from the UK and so much great music in the US - tons of great indie rock and whatnot - and none of it EVER gets played. That's why I've stopped watching MTV and listening to the radio. I just search for my own music - that's how I discovered Oasis, since I'm too young to really remember when they were big here.
It sux.

Well done to you Slide Away for seeking out your own music and refusing to be fed the crap peddled by middle of the road radio stations.
I can't believe that anyone who listens to a CD of 10 or so of Oasis' best songs could failt to be a fan - maybe you should make some up and hand them out to your friends!

would have never imagined... in argentina they put oasis on tv or radio 1 or 2 times a day minimum!! The problem is that, though there are lots of mechandising as posters and pins.. no single gets here!!! I have all of their cds obviously...but I dont have 1 of their singles...so I have to download them all! But its true, this year I went to new york and the radios were crap...they put the same 10 songs all over again and again and again...

I'm getting an ipod pretty soon but I'll probably just upload songs from my CD collection tbh, don't see the point in using apple itunes when by the sounds of it its just the current chart music available...

Oh no, there's a very good selection. The main deficiency is that there is a dearth of older material. But it's quite extensive. You can find a LOT of material, including lots of Indie music and somewhat older music.
It's just that the music posted depends on what the record companies release to Apple. For whatever reason, Sony and Oasis and Big Brother have not released much Oasis music on iTunes and it really is annoying me.

It really doesn't bother me that oasis isnt popular in the states. It's really easy to get tickets and the venues are never bigger than a couple thousand people (as opposed to the 60,000-80,000 people they usually play to in England). But it would be nice to be able to find things like posters and t shirts in stores over here instead of having to buy them on the net.

so whom do we contact @ apple re changing this? griping gets shit done...... regarding Oasis's DM, it was certified for sales over 1million in the US in 2001 and was certified for sales of 500,000 prior to WTSMG being released... BHN is also certified for sales of a million. so from late 1994 until early 1998 when Oasis was on their way out here they were a very successful band in the states. they had a 4 year run of things here and it was fucking great then.
post brit pop these bands have succeeded here : travis has had 2 gold albums in the US, Coldplay has had two multi platinum albums in the US, Radiohead have had multi platinum, platinum and gold records here, Dido has sold fucking mental amounts of albums here, Darkness has sold a million this year. It seems it is always one band every year though that the US biz annoints as the brit band of the moment.
