I know most people consider Liam, Noel, Bonehead, Guigsy and Alan to be the "real" Oasis line up, however I consider the best Oasis line up to be Liam, Noel, Bonehead, Guigsy and Tony.
This is because Tony was an original member (precedes both Liam and Noel), and his time with the band coincided with the bands best songs.
Some people don't seem to like him, because he was a rubbish drummer, but Bonehead and Guigsy were crap on guitar and bass too, and even Noel is not a great guitarist. Their amatuerism and attitude to life is part of what made Oasis good. It meant they connected with the people (something which despite Gem and Andy's talent Oasis no longer do(or at least not as much)).
Tony was part of the original Manchester gang, and every gang needs a runt to take the piss out of. So in conclusion just remember that it is Tony's drumming that you are listening to when you play Definitely Maybe (also Some Might Say, Whatever and Acquiece).

Fair comment my son!!!
I definitely see what ur saying when you talk about the connection with ordinery people.
On the there and then video, its quality seeing bonehead, guigsy, liam and noel who are 4 fucking manchester scallies accidently playing to 40,000 people in the biggest rock n roll band in the world!! Thats what its all about!! Would have been great to see all 5 there.

Shame he'll be known forever like Pete Best for getting sacked once things started really taking off. I wonder if he did any interviews for the upcoming Definitley Maybe dvd? I have read on different Oasis sites that Noel said he played drums on many of DM's tracks wonder if there is any truth to that?

Apparantly Tony McCarrol has a band called Rakia who will be supporting Bonehead's band The Seers - i think its on this Thursday night at The Witchwood in Ashton, and also at the Lux Club in Wigan on Sunday.

look at the beatles and sex pistols, couldnt string 3 chords together but u know. no, i don't. ringo was not the greatest drummer ever, but he could keep a beat. unlike tony. take it from me, a drummer. by the way, not meaning to be on your case- don't take it personally, alan never ever used drum rolls at the end of champagne supernova. he used trills, which give an effect of a drum roll but it's shorter and in short, you nearly let the drum stick bounce on the skin 2 or 3 times. not very impressive from a drummer's point of view. if you want to talk about good drummers, get back to me when you see the light with these names: john bonham, keith moon, and zak fuckin starkey. ;D

Tony just had a bad perm. Hahaha, i was about to say the same thing Anyway, i reckon it'd b good to set aside the politics inside oasis (i'm talking about Noel's dictatorship here) n if they all go back together (no not Tony, i dont like his hair... Alan will do)

I have read on different Oasis sites that Noel said he played drums on many of DM's tracks wonder if there is any truth to that? ha ha, noel saying he did the drumming on much of dm seems quite typical of noel, he has a tendancy to exaggerate =P i mean even if he did, tony did tour with them so i mean he still played the songs (shit or not... i dont pretend to be some drumming authority, but whatever is on dm sounds absolutely fine to me ;D ) as bonebrain said...he was part of the original line up, part of the group that appealed to so many people, they felt real...and now, even though zak gem and andy are great msuicians they just dont make it feel like 'oasis' as they once were. but i spose liam and noel have changed too so yeah...its just a diff oasis now. change is inevitable.

I heard this too, though it was when they were in court. Apparentley Noel did play drums on most of DM and creation were going to say so.Not sure if its true but I could see it.

I can't belive you're having a go at whitey 'cos he doesn't do drum rolls!!!!!I can't think of one Oasis song that would require a drum roll to reproduce the original recording. His fills and break beats are fine.If you would like Mat Sorum, thats up tpo you!
