Yeah, I agree...they're a great band....Doolittle, Surfer Rosa, Bossanova and Trompe Le Monde are all great....although I find them a bid overrated by today's critics...

Anyone else here a fan? The Pixies are easily my favourite band and they respectfully hold 2 of my 'Top 5 Favourite Albums' in Doolittle & Trompe Le Monde, not to mention a good array of my favourite songs. I've always found them to be head scratching-ly underrated in the wider music community despite being held in the very highest regard amongst many of alternative rock's most celebrated individuals (Kurt Cobain, Tom Yorke, David Bowie, Rivers Cuomo, Dave Grohl, Bob Mould, Jonny Greenwood & many, many more). If the NME wants to be giving out Godlike Genius awards, there are few individuals more deserving than Black Francis. As good a song writer as I've ever heard.

TBH outside of Here Comes Your Man and Where Is My Mind? I don't recall hearing any other Pixies songs before this week. They came up on my For You page on Apple Music the other day, so I decided to finally listen to one of their albums. I've always heard they were a big influence on Cobain. That's an understatement. I've heard a couple of songs that he lifted parts from. The Sweater Song by Weezer is reworking of I Bleed. Really enjoyed most of what I heard so far.

Isnt the sweater song a reworking of welcome home(sanitarum)?

I've heard a couple of songs that he lifted parts from. The Sweater Song by Weezer is reworking of I Bleed. Really enjoyed most of what I heard so far. The Kim Deal sung Gigantic is probably one of the only other ones to break into a more mainstream conscience, recently featuring in one of Apple's commercials. Smells Like Teen Spirit is usually the Nirvana track which gets compared to the Pixies the most, due to Cobain's quotes and the fact that it's the easiest to compare from the entire Nirvana catalogue. The bassline with the "quirky" single note guitar lines, song dynamics, etc. Even Grohl said it was almost scrapped for sounding just "too like the Pixies". One component which often lazily get thrown around however is comparisons between the songs famous guitar riff and the riff in U-Mass from the Pixies 4th full length LP Trompe Le Monde, this is nothing more than coincidence though as Nevermind was released no more than 1 day later. How's that for a baton pass, huh? I've heard comparisons between The Sweater Song and I Bleed before and there's definitely a resemblance there. Rivers Cuomo has been open about his Pixies influences before but I don't recall hearing anything shameless. Feeder's Buck Rogers is another obvious one.

One of the most influential alternative rock bands of the late 80's and early 90's. They really helped to shape bands like Nirvana and Weezer. Doolittle is as good, if not better than anything Nirvana released and it's one of the most influential albums of all time. The quiet-loud-quiet-loud formula is a timeless indie rock formula now.
Bossanova, Doolittle, and Surfer Rosa are all really great albums.
I don't necessarily love them, but their influence is undeniable and its still felt today.

Nothing has been officially announced yet (although new music has been confirmed to be coming out soon) but here are the strongly rumoured details for the next Pixies album:
LP Title: Head Carrier Personel: Black Francis, Joey Santiago, David Lovering, Paz Lenchantin Producer: Tom Dalgety Recorded: The Canterbury Music Company, Toronto, Canada/Riverside Studios, Bath, UK Release Date: 30th September 2016 First Single: Um Chagga Lagga Tracklist (in no particular order): - All I Think About Now [Lead Vocal - Paz Lenchantin] - All the Saints - Baal's Back - Bel Esprit [Lead Vocal - Black Francis/Paz Lenchantin] - Classic Masher [Track 2] - Head Carrier [Track 1] - Oona - Plaster of Paris - Tenement Song - Um Chagga Lagga - Wasted Talent - You Might as Well Be Gone
Apparently it will released in the same format as the last album. EP's first, then combined as an LP.

Years ago my brothers band, Fable, played a song called 'Whirlwind' and the rhythm guitarist always added this little riff to it that my brother loved, but never knew the origin of. One day while driving down the road a Pixies song came on and a similar riff was in it, my brother freaked thinking that the riff had been lifted possibly.
Of course he later realized that the guitarist from his band had been lifting it from the Pixies all along.

Where is my mind is a great song, but it's lacking something. Probably a great chorus. I wish there was a catchy chorus after "Way out in the water..." part.
Noel Gallagher probably could have wrote that part.

Doolitle is fantastic, it's the place to start with the Pixies.
I used to like this song by The Breeeders, Kim Deal band with her sister, which used to be on heavy rotation on MTV.
