and ive said it before on this forum - the biggest endorsement of Thatcher's policies is that she killed hard-left socialism stone dead and forced 'new labour' to emerge. Labour's current economic policies are built upon Thatcherite foundations If thats true, why do the Torys accuse Labour of being 'Old Labour' - (tax and spend) on one hand yet accuse them of stealing their policies at the same time? Thats a big contradiction which Ive never been able to get my head around. As for Thatcher, yeah, loads of people did well under her leadership, but her policies caused two massive recessions in 11 years mate. She put 3.5 million people on the dole not once, but twice. Thats why her own party got rid of her in the end, they knew if she stayed in power it would have happened again. Boom and bust were her trade-mark. Labour may have based their some of their econonic policies on what Major was doing (not Thatcher) but they have also done things for the good of the country which the Conservatives would never have done - the minimum wage and the New Deal for a start. Both excellent ideas. The Torys had about 20 MP's in Scotland when she came to power in 1979, now they have 1. I think that tells its own story as to what effect their policies had on us up here in those 18 years they were in power.

What, you mean Braveheart wast 100% accurate? Im gutted! ;D Seriously, the majority of people here dont want independance. I'm proud to be Scottish and I think its great that we have our own very different culture, traditions, law system and education system from England and Wales, but at the end of the day, I'm proud to be British too. The SNP's share of the vote actually went down at the election, they only have about 5 MP's I think. And since we've had our own Parliment, I think that has satisfied most people. And the Parliment has been very good on the whole, PR is used in the elections for it which means we have a coalition Executive which may sound a bad idea in theory, but in fact, its been really good and shows that different party's can work together when they are forced to. And its really refreshing to see the way they debate things in the chamber, it doesnt have any of the old traditons that Westminster has hanging over it, so they just get on with things and the First Minister actually has to answer real questions not like PMQ's at Westminster.
